Opportunity to Provide Comment on BC Ferries’ Proposal for a Cable Ferry

The British Columbia Ferry Commission is seeking public comment on BC Ferries’ proposal to build and operate a cable ferry on Route 21 (Buckley Bay on Vancouver Island – Denman Island).

BC Ferries has submitted an application under Section 55(2) of the Coastal Ferry Act seeking the commissioner’s approval of the major capital expenditures necessary to build the cable ferry and the associated terminals.

Under Section 55 of the Act, the commissioner may approve a major capital expenditure if the proposed expenditure is reasonable, prudent, and consistent with the current Coastal Ferry Services Contract, and any long-term capital plan established by the ferry operator.

The deadline for written submissions is January 23, 2014.

Submissions received by the Ferry Commission may, at the discretion of the commissioner, be published on its website.
